Have you finally reached the time when you can redecorate your family room? Perhaps you have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. If so, you might already have some concrete ideas about what you want to do in the way of decorating the area. However, you might still be in the deciding stages of your redecorating plan. Either way, here are some ideas that might help you to create an attractive and usable family room.
Pick & Stick with a Theme
Have you decided on a theme? Perhaps you're going with a western style room, a room with a Mexican mood, or simply a traditional feeling. As you select a theme, think of what brings you joy. For example, if you want to remember days spent in places like Arizona or New Mexico, you might want a western style room. If you fell in love as you traveled to places like Puerto Vallarta or Cuernavaca, then you might want to establish a Mexican mood in your family room. Or, if you are wanting to have a touch of many decorative objects, think of establishing a traditional room.
Decide on Furniture
Consider the fact that you might want to change themes over the years. Furniture companies often have a great selection of Stickley furniture that will easily adapt to many themes. You could buy basics like a sofa, occasional chairs, a central coffee table and end tables, and at least one set of floor to ceiling shelves. If you can fit two sets of floor to ceiling shelves, one of them can be used as an entertainment center and the other one can be used for books and collectibles. If you are wanting to establish a real entertainment center, consider buying a reclining sofa and reclining chairs that lend themselves to watching movies and television shows.
Have Fun with Decor
If you think buying furniture was fun, you'll love shopping for the extras that will establish the mood you want to set. Whether you're decorating with a Mexican theme, a western them, or any other style, consider buying decorative items at places like antique stores, resale shops and boutiques where you will find unique items that will add some fun drama to the room. Don't forget to decorate with pictures, too. Consider having a rogue's gallery wall that includes framed pictures of your family members and friends you've had over the years.
