Just because you work from home doesn't mean you can't have comfortable office space. There are things you can do to spruce up your work environment, and create a home office that allows you to be comfortable and productive. Here are four simple steps you can take to create the perfect home office.

Make the Space Your Own

When it comes to setting up a home office, it's important to make the space your own. Even if space is limited in your home, you can still create a workspace that works for you. Choose a location that will allow you to set up your necessary equipment. Once you've chosen the location for your home office, create your own personal space by adding a touch of color and individuality. Remember that you're going to be spending a lot of time in your space, so add items that you want to look at.

Bring on the Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of any office – including one in your home. If the space you've chosen has access to windows, removing the coverings will allow more natural light to fill your office. If you don't have access to natural lighting in your office space, bring on plenty of lighting fixtures, including one that will sit on your desk, and an overhead light to brighten your workspace. Not sure you have room for an overhead light? Try installing a shelf over your workspace and placing a space-saver light fixture underneath it.

Choose the Right Desk

When it comes to your office desk, it's important to choose the right one. If your workday requires computer access, be sure to choose a desk that provides space for your monitor, modem and keyboard. If you'll also use a printer and fax machine, you'll need space for those, as well. If your workday involves non-stop paperwork, choose a desk that provides you with ample space on your desktop. Don't settle for the first desk you find. Sit down at a few and try them out. Find the one that suits your needs, and your comfort level.

Add a Comfy Chair

You're going to be sitting at your desk – a lot. Take the time to choose an office chair that will provide you the highest level of comfort and support. The perfect chair will allow your feet to sit firmly on the floor, while your arms are resting comfortably by your sides. The back should provide adequate lumbar support, so you can avoid those workday backaches.
